Tranquility Bay

Tranquility Bay provides a great location and facility for severe behavior modification and only accepts students when referred from one of our teen specialty school programs. This school has students from 13-18 yrs. old, and endeavors to help the kids reach their potential for being good citizens and functional members of society.

Enrichment Time
Tranquility Bay is a Specialty Boarding School and therapeutic behavioral modification facility, with an excellent academic program and therapy for kids who have been very defiant and hard to manage. The students range from age 13-18 yrs. old. Tranquility Bay is located a few hundred miles from Florida in the friendly country of Jamaica. Its remote location and humble, modest environment inpired by the Jamaican culture helps minimize inappropriate distractions, but is still only a short flight from the United States. Additionally, the view of the bay from campus is quite breathtaking and seems to have a calming effect on the students. The simplicity of life and culture of the Jamaican staff help provide the kids with a real appreciation of the lifestyle they had grown accustomed to in the U.S.

The Tranquility Bay program is designed to help young people build character, acquire self discipline, increase self esteem, gain respect for others, and develop an appreciation for the simplicities in life. The staff and therapists are here to help them find new ways to reach worthy goals, while overcoming and resolving self-limiting beliefs. This opens a passageway to assist in forgiveness, healing and a new approach to family peace and harmony. The journey is not always an easy one, but if you ask the families that have 'made the voyage' I am confident they will affirm that it was indeed a worthy endeavor. The protocol used in the program has been tried, tested and proven to work. The therapeutic portion of the program is focused on improving self worth and creating happy successful family relationships. As honesty and communication is re-established between the parents and their child, family unity and success become a common goal. This initiates an upward journey toward a better and more rewarding life. At Tranquility Bay, not only do the students receive daily group therapy, they also have frequent individualized therapy that is included in the price of their program. Therefore, like the Cross Creek Program, Tranquility Bay is a true therapeutic behavioral modification program in addition to being a Boarding School specializing in helping troubled teens consistent with other schools in our program.

Additionally, due to the greater value of the U.S. dollar in Jamaica, the Program can provide its services at a significant reduction of cost to families. All of these reasons make Jamaica an excellent option for teens needing to make changes in their lives.

Academics

In addition to having a successful therapeutic approach with difficult kids, the academic program at Tranquility Bay allows for students to work toward their greatest potential. Small classes and ideal student to teacher ratio, help create an extremely progressive academic program. The curriculum is individualized and competency based, allowing students to work at their own pace and maximize the learning process. Students are not held back by other teens in the class, lesson plans, teachers' schedules, course offerings, or class availability. The students are tutored by a teacher and in some cases, it is possible to complete courses on an accelerated basis. Each student is assessed upon admission and then assisted in designing their specific course of study.

Credits earned by students at Tranquility Bay are accredited and transfer to the majority of public schools and institutions of higher learning throughout the USA.

Behavior Modification

Tranquility Bay, will become your child's home away from home. Assisted by a dedicated family group leader and licensed therapist, your child will have a great support system within their own small group of kids to which they will be assigned. Changing behavior is accomplished in a stern but nurturing way, with a lot of well clarified boundaries. High standards and expectations are established for the kids. Inappropriate behavior is confronted, reprimanded and re-directed by suggesting alternative choices. Consequences are assigned, but never include physical or corporal punishment. On the contrary, appropriate behavior is reinforced and rewarded. A merit system is used requiring each student to earn their status and privileges through a standardized program using a system of levels that encourage achievement.

Activities

Both on and off-campus activities provide a nice balance of recreation, exercise, learning, personal development and social opportunities. Initially all activities are on grounds. As a child advances in the program they earn privileges for rewarding off grounds activities such as sight-seeing, water sports, beach outings, and cultural events and other experiences for which Jamaica is well suited.

Personal Development Courses 

Students participate daily in tightly-integrated Emotional Growth and Personal Development Courses. These courses effectively utilize resources, such as audio and video tapes, selective reading material, and group feedback sessions. Group feedback sessions are key in this program for developing self-awareness. During these sessions students begin to open up and learn to communicate appropriately. These sessions also address what is or isn't working in their lives. The greatest impact is hearing other kids in their group provide feedback to one another about appropriate or inappropriate behavior. The kids are held accountable for supporting each others positive actions while denying their negative behavior.

TASKS (Teen Accountability, Self-Esteem and Keys to Success)

Students participate in a series of seminars designed specifically for Tranquility Bay. During the TASKS seminars and work shops, students work on important issues like: accountability, honesty, integrity, trust, making choices, responsibility, anger and most importantly, self-esteem. After a they have completed their series of seminars then the parents are invited to attend a Parent Seminar and two Parent/Child Workshops. The parent/child work shops are designed to assist each family in rebuilding their communication and family harmony.
